The team were thrilled to celebrate the tenth birthday of Wodonga TAC L2P at Junction Support Services in May.

The TAC L2P Program assists learners between 16 and 21 years of age, who do not have access to a supervising driver or car, to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.

Young people are matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors who are given access to a car to provide supervised driving experience to the learner.

The TAC L2P Program is a partnership between local councils and community organisations, the Department of Transport and the Transport Accident Commission. The program is locally delivered by Junction Support Services.

Over the past decade, Wodonga TAC L2P mentors have clocked over 13,000 hours supervising over 280 local learner drivers as part of the TAC L2P Program. The program has successfully helped 125 learners to attain their probationary licence.

Paul Moore, Senior Partnerships Officer from the Department of Transport said; “it’s around allowing learners that otherwise wouldn’t have access to a supervising driver to get up to 120 hours.

“Getting your licence is one thing, but research shows that it increases opportunities in education and employment.”

The Wodonga TAC L2P program has seen evidence of this. Since gaining their provisional licence, some of the participants have secured employment which may not have been possible if it were not for the program.
