Youth Homelessness Matters Day

Today, April 15, 2020, is Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

For the past 30 years, every day has been homelessness matters day at Junction Support Services as we’ve worked with people of all ages who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

This year’s Youth Homelessness Matters Day is asking the question: “With a home a young person can…”

At Junction, we believe that “with a home a young person can…”

–         Be safe
–         Focus on their mental health and wellbeing
–         Study
–         Work
–         And achieve their full potential!

What we are seeing with youth homelessness is alarming:

Across north-east Victoria, in the 2018-19 financial year, we supported 361 children and adolescents who were experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

In Wodonga alone, between January 2019 and January 2020, we supported:

–         189 young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
–         36 children experiencing or at risk of homelessness
–         Of those children and young people, 13 per cent were homeless because of family violence

There are two ways you can support young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness:

1: You can donate to support young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in north-east Victoria here givenow.com.au/junctionsupportservices
Every cent donated will be used to support local young people into crisis accommodation

2: Like and share Youth Homelessness Matters Day on social media using #YHMD2020  #everybodyshome
