Working together for Homelessness Week

Junction Support Services was proud to join Hume Region Homelessness Network and other agencies across the region to support Homelessness Week, 7-13 August, 2017.

Homelessness Week is an annual campaign led by Homelessness Australia to raise awareness of people experiencing homelessness and the issues they face. It is held in August because it is the coldest time of year.

Watch this video to get an insight into homelessness in north-east Victoria.

It’s estimated that there are more than 105,000 people in Australia who are homeless and more than a quarter of them are under the age of 18 (source: Homelessness Australia).

Of people experiencing homelessness, it’s estimated that only 6 per cent sleep rough, making it largely a hidden problem. Read Dave’s story of homelessness and how we supported him to get back on track.

Locally, Homelessness Week was supported and promoted by the Hume Region Homelessness Network, Junction Support Services, Beyond Housing (formerly known as Rural Housing) and Wodonga Council.

As part of Homelessness Week there was a pop up display at a shop front in High Street Wodonga featuring artwork about “The Meaning of Home”.
