What is family violence?

Family and domestic violence is any violent, threatening, coercive or controlling behaviour that occurs in current or past family, domestic or intimate relationships.

This includes physical injury and also direct or indirect threats, sexual assault, emotional and psychological torment, economic control, damage to property, social isolation and any behaviour which causes a person to live in fear.

Violence can occur in any kind of relationship including, same sex relationships and against older people and people with a disability.

What is RISE?

RISE stands for Recovery, Individual Safety and Empowerment. 
The RISE program is for anyone who has experienced family violence. 
RISE addresses the impacts of family violence to 
ensure children and families are safe, heal from their experiences of violence and develop resilience for the future. Free, safe and confidential, RISE is for:

  • Children
  • Women
  • Men
  • People of all ages
  • People of all cultural backgrounds
  • GLBTIQ+ people

How does RISE work?

RISE offers therapeutic support and counselling for local people who have experienced family violence.

Participants are supported by experienced 
professionals from Junction Support Services and the Australian Childhood Foundation.

RISE uses expressive therapies, including sandplay therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches and 
narrative therapy. Support can be one-on-one or in a group setting.

RISE can support people in the following areas:

  • City of Wodonga
  • Rural City of Wangaratta
  • 
Indigo Shire
  • Towong Shire
  • Alpine Shire

How can I connect with RISE?

All you need to do is fill out the form on this page or phone the Intake team at Junction Support Services on 02 6043 7400.

The Intake team at Junction Support Services will arrange a phone or face-to-face appointment to gather basic information. 
A counsellor will then contact with you and make an appointment.

Together you will explore your concerns, goals and readiness for counselling.

RISE is an inclusive program. .
Junction Support Services and the Australian Childhood Foundation are safe places and are respectful environments. 
Both organisations are Child Safe.
