Congratulations to our L2P mentor driver Pam Roth who has been named Wodonga Volunteer of the Year.

The award was presented at the Wodonga Volunteers Fair, which was run by Wodonga Council to thank volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week 8-14 May.

The L2P program is funded by VicRoads through Wodonga Council and run by Junction Support Services.

Pam, from Wodonga, is teaching her third young person to drive through L2P. She has consistently gone above and beyond for her young drivers, volunteering well over the required one hour a week to take them on full-day drives.

Wodonga Mayor Anna Speedie, who presented the award, praised Pam as a role model on and off the road.

Pam has had a strong positive influence on the young people she has taught to drive, particularly with a young woman who was unable to live with her family and lived in out of home care. The young woman has had many challenges and Pam remains a positive influence in the young woman’s life even though she successfully obtained her P-plates.

Pam, who also volunteers with Red Cross, said she felt honoured to win the award.

“Volunteering is such a worthwhile thing to do. It’s rewarding to give your time to help other people,” she said.

Junction Support Services has about 60 volunteers in its L2P and Leaving Care Mentoring programs.

Leaving Care volunteers support young people, who have lived in Out of Home Care because they have been unable to live with their families, to make the transition to independent living.
