“Junction saved my life”

We regularly get positive feedback from our clients but Dave’s story of how Junction helped “save his life” moved us all.

Dave, in his 30s, was homeless and in crisis when he came to us.

He was staying at mates’ places and regularly sleeping rough in parks and on benches in north-east Victoria.

“I hated it,” he recalled.

“I’d had enough. I lost hope in everything and everyone. I thought about suicide.”

For Dave, a relationship breakdown and a health condition led to homelessness.

“To not know where you’re sleeping at night is stressful beyond words,” he said.

He was unable to share custody of his children because he did not have stable accommodation.

We helped Dave secure stable accommodation and he was quickly able to start turning things around.

“Junction helped me change everything – I owe it a huge debt,” he said.

“What it has done for me and my family is unbelievable.”

Now that he has stable accommodation Dave is studying and hopes to do community work so he can help other people.

“There are lots of challenges ahead and I’ll have those for the rest of my life but I’m working on it.”

Dave’s Junction worker said: “He was always very clear in what he needed – stable accommodation – to get himself back on track and put the priority of his kids first.

“He did everything we asked him to do.

“He took responsibility for stuff. He didn’t lay any blame. He put his kids first and is working hard to have a better life.”

If you know someone who is sleeping rough or is homeless please encourage them to contact us on 02 6043 7400 or after hours through an emergency line on 1800 955 825.
