Close Collective Café, Junction Support Services’ Social Trader-certified social enterprise, is baking with purpose ahead of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

On June 27, Junction’s Close Collective Café and neighbouring Windbreak 3690 Youth Space will host a morning tea, raising vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, and support programs.

Close Collective Café is named in honour of Kate Close, Junction’s former Intensive Case Management Service Team Manager, who passed away from cancer in 2022.

“Helping raise awareness of this terrible disease, which affects so many, is deeply personal for many of us at Junction,” says Megan Hanley, CEO of Junction Support Services.

“Kate Close was a highly valued colleague and a much-loved friend. Her passion for working with young people in the community left an incredible legacy.

“Hosting a community morning tea and raising funds through our Close Collective Café is a perfect way to continue Kate’s impact.”

James Howley, Junction Support Services OHS and Wellbeing Coordinator, encourages Border locals to come together for a meaningful morning of connection over freshly baked scones, sandwiches, fruit, and a warm drink.

“We know that cancer touches so many lives, and this event is a meaningful way to come together, enjoy great food, and contribute to a cause that truly matters,” James says.

Entry is by gold coin donation, with every contribution helping improve outcomes for those affected by cancer.

Junction Support Services’ Biggest Morning Tea will be at 10.30am on Friday, June 27, at Windbreak 3690 Space, next to Close Collective Café overlooking Woodland Grove, at 198a High Street, Wodonga.

For those unable to attend, there’s still a way to support this important cause!

Throughout June, Close Collective Café will donate 50 per cent of proceeds from every scone sold to the Cancer Council.

“This is a collective effort to stamp out cancer, and we’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community,” says Close Collective Café Manager, David Kapay.
