For more than 15 years, Junction Support Services has coordinated the TAC L2P Program in Wodonga, helping drive young people towards independence and success.
In 2025, 33 Wodonga learners successfully obtained their Probationary Licence through the program; another seven have already achieved this milestone so far this year, with more preparing for their tests.
Funded by the Transport Accident Commission and the Department of Transport and Planning, the TAC L2P Program helps learner drivers who lack access to a supervising driver or suitable vehicle to gain the driving hours and experience needed to apply for a probationary licence.
“It’s inspiring to see the confidence that learners gain from the moment they start with us to the day they pass their test,” says Samantha Petzke, TAC L2P Program Coordinator.
“Many of our young people don’t have access to a car or a supervising driver, so this program gives them a pathway they otherwise wouldn’t have.”
Participants receive up to seven free professional driving lessons and are matched with a volunteer mentor and program vehicle.
“Every young person deserves the chance to build independence and move toward their goals, and having a driver’s licence is often a key part of that journey,” says Junction CEO Megan Hanley.
“Our TAC L2P Program continues to grow because the need in our community is real, and the outcomes are life-changing.
“We’re incredibly proud of the young people who have gained their licence through the program, and deeply grateful to the volunteer mentors who make this possible.
“Their generosity creates opportunities that go far beyond driving.”
To join the TAC L2P Program, learners need to:
- Hold a current Victorian learner permit
- Be aged 16–23
- Have limited access to a vehicle and/or supervising driver
- Live in Wodonga
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
